Comparison of Beam Profiles and Wedge Factors for Physical and Enhanced Dynamic Wedge

چکیده
The linear accelerator (linac) is a device that uses highfrequency electromagnetic waves to accelerate charged particles such as electrons to high energies through a linear tube. The high-energy electron beam can be used for treating superficial tumours, or it can be made to strike a target to produce x-rays for treating deep-seated tumours. In the majority of instances, the collimated beam emerging from an X-ray tube can be directly applied to the patient. In some circumstances, it is desirable to modify the spacial distribution of radiation within the patient by the insertion of material into the beam. This is called beam modifying devices.

Characterization of Wedge Factors and Dose Distributions in Radiotherapy with Symmetric and Asymmetric Physical Wedged Beams of 6 MV Photon Beam
Introduction: Physical wedge by modify photon beam shape and intensity has been utilized in radiotherapy to obtain uniformly dose distribution in tumor site with reduced hot spots. Calculation of dosimetric parameters for both symmetric and asymmetric wedged fields is proved necessary during linear accelerator (Linac) commissioning. The present study aimed to achieve o...

Introduction: Physical wedge as a useful tool has been utilized in radiotherapy to modify photon beam shape and intensity such that it distributes dose uniformly in tumor site and reduces hot points. Since during Linac commissioning dosimetric parameters like output factors and lateral dose profiles are measured only for symmetric open and wedged fields, so calculation the par...
متن کاملA Monte Carlo simulation and dosimetric verification of physical wedges used in radiation therapy
Background: The presence of a wedge filter in the beam trajectory can modify the beam quality and cause some changes in the dosimetry parameters which are usually difficult to be measured directly and accurately. Material and Methods: In this study the MCNP-4C Monte Carlo code was used to simulate the 9 MV photon beam generated by a linear accelerator. Upon getting a good agreement bet...
متن کاملOptimum reckoning of contra lateral breast dose using physical wedge and enhanced dynamic wedge in radiotherapy treatment planning system
Background: It was intended to investigate the effect of physical wedge (PW) and enhanced dynamic wedges (EDW) on contralateral breast dose during primary breast irradiation in radiotherapy treatment, using high energy photon beams. Materials and Methods: The Varian’s Clinac dual mode linear accelerator model 2100 C/D and Siemen’s Primus accelerators were used for radiation doses wi...
متن کاملVerification of Varian enhanced dynamic wedge implementation in MasterPlan treatment planning system
This paper investigates the accuracy of the two available calculation algorithms of the Oncentra MasterPlan three-dimensional treatment planning system (TPS)-- the pencil beam method and collapsed-cone convolution--in modeling the Varian enhanced dynamic wedge (EDW). Measurements were carried out for a dual high energy (6-15 MV) Varian DHX-S linear accelerator using ionization chambers for beam...
